A common reason for a baby getting diarrhea is changing between brands or weaning onto a baby formula for the first time. Babies who are not used to our formulas may need time to settle.
We recommend a gradual transition when switching from one formula to another. The transition should occur slowly to allow your baby’s digestive system to adjust and get used to the new formula.
Keep in mind, the GOS in the formula may increase baby’s intestinal movement. If formula isn’t stored or prepared correctly, this can also cause babies to get an upset tummy or diarrhea, so please ensure you are following the storage and preparation instructions correctly.
An allergy to one of the ingredients in the formula is also a possibility, so if you are concerned, please consult your health care provider.
Breastmilk contains different kinds of oligosaccharides (sugar-like substances), which feed the beneficial bacteria in the infant gut, allowing them to colonize and reside there. This is sometimes called a “prebiotic” effect. These substances also promote soft stools and regular bowel movements. Little Étoile® Nutrition Stage 1 & 2 Formulas contain GOS, a naturally occurring prebiotic derived from lactose, the major oligosaccharide found in breastmilk. GOS has been shown in clinical studies to promote digestive function by providing a stool softening effect (Moro et al. Acta Paediatr Suppl. 2003 Sep;91(441):77-9.).

In babies, the central nervous system is busy collecting lutein either from breastmilk or infant formula and storing it as an antioxidant within the developing retina.
Lutein protects your baby’s eye by acting as a blue-light filter, which becomes important when we consider that stray blue and UV light is harmful to infant eyes. Stray light of this kind can lead to oxidative damage, and antioxidants are able to reduce this damage. The retina and macula of your baby’s eyes are responsible for the development of detailed vision.
Lutein may also plays a protective role in your baby’s cognitive development, by helping to prevent free radical damage to the delicate nerve fibers in the brain.

Beta carotene is both an antioxidant vitamin and is converted in the body to vitamin A. During infancy and early childhood, your little one’s eyes are developing dramatically, and their vision is constantly improving. Vitamin A in the form of retinal makes up a structural component of the cells in the retina (rods and cones) needed for healthy eye development and color vision. Vitamin A also plays an essential role in regulating the immune system, and structural integrity of the gut lining for digestive health.
